What is Applied Behavior Analysis?
Applied Behavior Analysis, also known as ABA, is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. ABA therapy applies our understanding of how behavior works to real situations and the goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease those that are harmful or affect learning. In addition, many individuals struggle to obtain access to appropriate autism services. Few treatment standards, limited care coordination, inconsistent provider quality and significant costs often become barriers to care.
Advances in diagnostic capabilities allow doctors to see more accurately the prevalence of autism, yet the majority of children do not receive a diagnosis until age 4. As with all neurological disorders, early intervention in the diagnosis of ASD is key to helping both the child and caregiver.
